Understanding Digital Inputs and Outputs - Case Study

Inputs/Outputs, or I/O is a system of communication for information processing systems
INPUT: The term input is used to define data flow into a controller or control function.
OUTPUT: Output defines the data flow out of a controller or control function.
Functions of Digital Inputs/Outputs:

Digital Inputs:
A digital input typically consists of a power supply (voltage source), a switch and a voltage-sensing device (analog-to-digital converter). Depending on the switch's open/closed status, the sensing device detects a voltage or no voltage condition, which in turn generates a logical 0 or 1, on

Digital Outputs:
A digital output typically consists of a switch (either mechanical as in a relay, or electronic as in a transistor or triac) that either opens or closes the circuit between two terminals depending on the binary state of the output.

Benefits of Digital Inputs/Outputs:
Technifor marking machines controller UC500 has 8 inputs / 4 outputs for added flexibility during integration. In basic applications, it can eliminate the need of PLC for reduced cost and simplified programming. Technifor controller software includes advanced functions such as:
Wait input
Waits for the state of one or more Inputs in order to move to the following marking block. (ex. Part presence sensor or clamping system input activated before starting a marking)
Set Output
Change output state after a marking (ex. activate an actuator to remove the part marked)
Branch
Coding the inputs to select automatically the right marking file (up to 256 files can be indexed to the inputs)
Thus Technifor controller provides above mentioned functions through it's this feature of Digital Inputs Outputs which allows the easy way to integrate a marking machine into production line & helps to reduce the integration cost.
Case Study: Integration System for Piston Marking
Customer Need:
Component weight checking and dimensions measuring system to be implemented before marking Alphanumeric characters marking on aluminum pistons for traceability of each part.
Marking data should change automatically and should get recorded in their software system.
Need easily programmable, semi-automatic PLC system manual loading & unloading of component.
Technifor Solution :
Integrable marking machine XF510Sp supplied with PLC for serial communication with PC based software.
Measuring system integrated in the system to check the diameter of the components.
Weighing scale integrated to check the weight of the component
Process Sequence :
Load the component on measuring station, Software will show the dimensions.
If dimensions are OK then to load the component on weighing scale to check the weight.
If weight is OK then to send component on marking station for marking.
Marking data will be recorded in software and next marking data will change automatically
End-user benefits :
Technifor has been able to satisfy customer demands by using integrable marking machine solution. Due to availability of various features less time is required to integrate the complete project.
Technifor solution enabled the complete traceability of each part with automatic changing data and recording it in software.
