FREE Wood Engraving Download

This month's Gravotech Laser e-News is all about laser engraving on wood. Follow these simple tricks to create the best looking wood signage and gifts for your customers.

TIPS AND TRICKS:

1. For cutting wood, opt for a short focal length!

2. For clean cuts with no burn effect, choose a laser machine that offers high speeds.

Extra tip: place adhesive tape over the cutting area before launching the job: it will protect the surface to be cut and will leave the wood perfectly clean!

3. The harder the wood and the greater the thickness to be cut, the greater the power output is needed from your machine.

4. Using an air assist improves the quality of cut! It reduces heat at the point of work and eliminates fumes and particles.
Choose a machine with an integrated compressor; this will guarantee silent operation and optimize space.

5. To prevent the wood from overheating, adjust your engraving settings to 300 dpi: the beam scan is then ideal for the engraving photographs, complex drawings, fine detailing and more.

New Concealed Damage Claim Guidelines & Other NMFC Rule Changes

At Gravotech we do our best to properly pack your products with the utmost care for a safe shipment. Unfortunately, shipping companies make mistakes and packages are damaged. It is always important to note any damages to your receiver and report the damage to the carrier when you receive packages that are damaged.

You should also contact Gravotech’s Customer Service to arrange for a replacement order. In the case of hidden damage, please take notice of the shortened time frame for "hidden damage" claims to all carriers. Previously, you had 15 days to notify the carrier. Now, you have 5 days to notify the carrier of hidden damage.  Below is a more detailed explanation:

Recently, some changes have been made in Supplement 1 to NMFC 100-AO regarding guidelines for filing and investigating damage claims. New NMFC guidelines effective April 18 require concealed damages be reported to carriers within 5 days after delivery.

Currently concealed damages can be reported up to 15 days after delivery for consideration of a valid claim; however, per NMFC guidelines effective April 18, 2015 the time period for reporting concealed damages is being reduced to 5 days. The closer to the time of delivery that the damage is reported to the carrier the more likely the claimant is to receive some type of settlement offer, but just because the damage is reported in a timely fashion doesn't necessarily mean that the claim will be approved for a settlement.

Other changes effective on 4/18/2015 include one day being removed from the time frame allotted for filing suit on a claim. The new time period for filing a suit is two years. Previously, it was two years and one day. Shortage claims must now be filed within 9 months of the bill of lading date, and an added verification for loss obligation is also going into effect, which means that prior to any shortage claim being paid the carriers shall obtain a certified written statement from the consignee noting that they have not received the freight from any other source.

Additionally, for special or unique circumstances the carrier must be allowed to observe loading and/or unloading of each shipment at the time of pick-up and/or delivery, or else the shipment could be subject to liability limitations. You can visit the NMFC website for more information.
